Felicitaciones to the class of 2008! Best wishes for your continued
success. Have a great and restful summer.
Spanish instruction has become an integral part of St. Mary School curriculum.
The primary grades excel in singing and counting. The adventures of "Muzzy" help
them understand spoken language through repetition, while acquiring phonemic
awareness. Grades 3-5 work on speaking, listening and expanding their passive
and active vocabulary. Singing is a fun way for them to learn new words and improve
pronunciation. The students begin to write in Spanish using simple sentence construction.
Junior High has more emphasis on individual responsibility. Students are expected
to spend time memorizing unfamiliar vocabulary at home. This year, 2008-2009,
the sixth grade as well as the seventh grade will be using the 7th grade text,
Adelante. This text includes a technology component that allows the students
to drill, practice and review in the computer lab. Sixth through eighth grades
will use this interactive software as part of their instruction. It is an exciting
process to see each grade level become more proficient each year. I am looking
forward to another great year at St. Mary School.
