Catholic High Schools in Our Area

MISSION STATEMENT

We the members of St. Mary Catholic School, believe we are called to live and proclaim the Gospel of Christ and the tradition of the Church. We continue the vision begun by our pioneering families who were in partnership with the Sisters of Charity, B.V.M.

Through the official teaching and tradition of our faith, St. Mary School strives to integrate knowledge and truth with the Gospel values in all areas of school life from the academics learned in class to the recreation on the playground. We also seek to extend this experience of Christ back to the home and the community.

Parents, teachers and students of St. Mary School are actively involved in promoting a greater sense of ministry of those in need. Faith in Jesus Christ and His Gospel becomes a source of unity for the people of this parish and school community. The teachings are fostered by:

...recognizing that each individual is made in the image and likeness of God. St. Mary's education concerns itself with the total person: physical, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual
...establishing a Christian environment in which students develop intrinsic love of God and service to the Church and community - now and in the future
...fostering and developing a greater sense of ownership of the parish by respecting the diversity of cultures, expressions of beliefs, and those who share the Catholic faith.

PHILOSOPHY OF ST. MARY SCHOOL

St. Mary is a coeducational Catholic Elementary and Middle School, (Preschool-eighth) established and supported by the Catholic Faith Community of St. Mary Parish, DeKalb, Illinois. It is a part of the system of private parochial schools under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Rockford. We believe that the parents are the primary educators of their children and the school is a partner with the parents in fulfilling this service. It is the mission of the school to teach the secular subjects and to impart the Catholic Christian heritage to our students.

Faith in Jesus Christ and His Gospel become a source of unity for all that are taught in the school. The creation of a sense of Christian community is the aim of all those involved in this mission. Recognizing that each individual is made in the image and likeness of God, education must concern itself with the total person -- Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Spiritual.

St. Mary School provides a Gospel of school life from the subjects taken in class, to the recreation on the playground and extends this experience of Christ back to the home. This Gospel value approach to education makes St. Mary School different from other public and private schools
