HIGH SCHOOL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

The High School Religious Education program is offered on Sunday evenings from 7:00-8:30 PM in the Ministry Center from September to May. The format is arranged for an initial large group gathering for prayer and then the teens are divided into smaller groups for discussion.

Registration

Families registering their child(ren) into the RE program should be registered members of St. Mary Church. Registration takes place in August.

Catechism

A catechism will be provided for all sophomore students so that they may have more direct access and a better understanding of the teachings of the Church for Confirmatio

Retreats/Rallys

The retreats and/or rallys are a very important part of the program and have the potential to be the most powerful faith experience that the youth has ever encountered. Many lives are changed by attending these events and they are an integral part of our program. Participation is highly encouraged.

Attendance

Weekly attendance is expected. We start at 7:00 PM and end at 8:30 PM. Repeated tardiness is not acceptable. It is disruptive to the catechist and other students. Likewise it is unacceptable for a student to leave early without parental notification to the office. If this should happen without prior parental consent you will be contacted immediately. Please call the office at 758-5432 x227 from 5:30-6:00 PM if your child will not be in class for that evening or should need to arrive late or leave early. Parents will be contacted in the event their student was not in class and we did not receive prior notification.

Emergency Closings

In the case of severe weather or other emergencies resulting in the closing of the RE program, WDBK 94.9FM will be notified to announce such information. It will also be posted on the RE phone line (756-8504) and, if possible, on this web site.

Discipline

High School YM is based on being able to discuss difficult topics in an open environment. Therefore, we cannot permit any disrespectful or disruptive behavior to hinder the process for all concerned. Problems will be dealt with in the following manner:

1st: Discussion with youth concerning behavior
2nd: Previous step and call to parents/guardians
3rd: Previous steps and sent home from class
4th: Previous steps and conference with parents before re-instatement in class - possible removal from program.

Zero-Tolerance Policy

St. Mary Church Youth Ministry is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Therefore, no alcohol, drugs of any kind (including tobacco), or fireworks will be permitted on the premises. Violence and weapons, of any kind, are not tolerated. Police will be called as necessary to insure the safety of all parties. Also, appropriate dress is required at all times. Not permitted: clothing promoting inappropriate music and/or lifestyles and any outfit that does not permit the wearing of an undergarment. Undergarments should be completely covered by your outer clothing and not visible in any way.

Service

All students are expected to give a minimum of three (3) hours of service to our parish or community each semester for a total of six (6) hours for the program year. This can be accomplished either through planned YM service activities, Parish programs, or outside organization of their own choosing.

Visitors

Visitors are always welcome to attend our program. For the safety of all concerned, we ask that they notify the office upon their arrival.
